FM: “Omar, welcome to Founders Magazine. Your journey with Trella has been revolutionary in the logistics sector. Let’s start with what motivated you to launch a digital freight marketplace.”
Omar Hagrass:
“Thank you, it’s great to be here! The idea for Trella came from my previous experience in the supply chain industry. I noticed significant inefficiencies, especially in how freight was managed and truckers were connected to shippers. I wanted to create a platform that streamlined these processes, reduced costs, and empowered truck drivers by providing them with more opportunities and transparency.”
FM: “Trella has grown rapidly since its inception in 2019. What do you think has been the key to its success?”
Omar Hagrass:
“Our success lies in our ability to solve a real problem with technology. We created a platform that connects shippers and carriers, making freight transportation more efficient. But beyond the tech, it’s our team, our adaptability, and the trust we’ve built with our partners and drivers. The MENA region has long needed innovation in logistics, and we’ve been fortunate to contribute to that change.”
FM: “The logistics and transportation industry is known for its challenges. What were some of the major hurdles you faced in scaling Trella?”
Omar Hagrass:
“One major challenge was changing the mindset of stakeholders. Many traditional logistics companies were hesitant to adopt digital solutions. We had to prove that our platform wasn’t just innovative but also reliable and cost-effective. Another hurdle was building trust with truckers. Many had been underserved for years, so gaining their confidence took time and effort. Lastly, like any startup, we faced funding and operational challenges, but persistence and focus helped us overcome them.”
FM: “Trella operates in multiple markets now. How have you tailored your approach to suit different regions in MENA and beyond?”
Omar Hagrass:
“Every market is unique. For example, the trucking ecosystem in Egypt is very different from that in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. We’ve invested time in understanding local challenges, regulations, and customer needs. Our platform is flexible enough to adapt to these differences, and we hire local talent who deeply understand the markets we operate in. This balance of local insight and global strategy has been key.”
FM: “Trella is often praised for its social impact, especially on truckers. Can you tell us more about that?”
Omar Hagrass:
“Absolutely. One of our main goals is to empower truckers. Historically, they’ve been undervalued and underpaid. Trella gives them access to more jobs, better rates, and greater transparency. We also provide tools and data to help them optimize their operations, whether that’s through fuel efficiency tips or route planning. We want to elevate their quality of life while also improving the industry as a whole.”
FM: “What’s next for Trella? Any exciting plans or expansions on the horizon?”
Omar Hagrass:
“We’re constantly looking for ways to innovate and expand. Right now, we’re focused on deepening our presence in existing markets and exploring new ones. We’re also investing heavily in data-driven solutions to make our platform even smarter and more efficient. Sustainability is another big focus—finding ways to reduce emissions and promote eco-friendly logistics practices is a priority.”
FM: “Finally, as an entrepreneur, what advice would you give to others who are looking to build something impactful?”
Omar Hagrass:
“Focus on solving a real problem and always keep the customer at the center of everything you do. Building a business is hard, but perseverance and adaptability are key. Surround yourself with the right team, and don’t be afraid to fail—every mistake is a learning opportunity. Most importantly, always stay grounded and remember why you started.”
FM: “Thank you, Omar, for sharing your journey and insights. Trella’s story is truly inspiring, and we’re excited to see what’s next for you and your team!”
Omar Hagrass:
“Thank you! It’s been a pleasure talking with Founders Magazine. Here’s to more innovation and impact!”
